A FORTUNE telling machine at Brighton Palace Pier predicted Trixie Mattel’s Drag Race win, the star has claimed.

In an interview with The Argus ahead of her tour visit to the city next month, the American drag queen said that the Zoltar machine on the pier predicted she would win the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2018.

The show sees former contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race compete for a cash prize and a place in the Drag Race Hall of Fame.

She said: “I had a day off in Brighton a few years ago and I went to the pier.

“There’s actually a video of me going to the Zoltar fortune teller machine on the pier and asking if I would win All Stars.”

Trixie said she is looking forward to returning to the city for her upcoming tour, Grown Up, which promises a mix of stand-up and musical performances by her and a four-piece band.

“I’m excited - I like Brighton, and the show is designed to be the ultimate Trixie show, so tons of wigs, costume changes, reveals, stand-up, stories, some cool video content and a bunch of new covers I did during Covid.

“It’s called Grown Up because I guess when I was younger I thought I’d never be a 30-year-old drag queen - and when I turned 30 and was writing this show, I thought ‘well, this is my career now’.

“So the tour is sort of about those sobering moments where I realise I do not have a normal job.”

Fans can also expect to see an exclusive sneak preview of Trixie’s upcoming Discovery+ show Trixie Motel - which will see the drag queen renovate a hotel in Palm Springs.

The show in Brighton is part of a wider UK tour, which began in Glasgow earlier this month. While Trixie said it is good to be back in the country, she expressed bemusement at some women’s magazines on sale in the UK.

She said: “They’re f*****g crazy, One of the articles was 'I drove to work completely asleep'. That explains why everyone drives on the wrong side of the road.”

Two drag queens from Brighton have competed on the UK version of Drag Race; Joe Black and Anubis. Both queens were eliminated in the first week, although Joe briefly came back later in the series and placed eighth.

Trixie said that queens on the show should not be too obsessed with the idea of winning, and that being a contestant can be a win itself.

“Losing is fine as long as you stand by what you did, and you have to go into it thinking ‘I probably won’t win’. You should do your best but you should be surprised if you do well.

“Don’t tell RuPaul this but what the judges think of your drag does not ultimately matter. What the audience thinks of your drag matters.

“If everyone on the show says that you sucked and you go home, but everyone watching you do your thing loves it, that’s the only thing that really matters.”

Trixie Mattel’s tour comes to the Brighton Centre on May 11, with tickets available through the venue’s website.
