A MAN has avoided prison after stealing five t-shirts and a cardigan from Next.

Philip McManus received a 12-month conditional discharge after stealing clothing worth £138 from the store in Eastbourne on November 3 last year.

The 40-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence.

McManus, of Jevington Gardens, Eastbourne, has been ordered to pay £138 in compensation.

He will also have to pay £85 in court costs and a surcharge of £22 to fund victim services.
