A FATHER is to drive across six countries in an old banger in memory of his car-loving son.

James Howard was killed after being hit by a car while skateboarding in Hurstpierpoint in 2010.

The 11-year-old’s father Lawrence Howard plans to take part in the Monte Carlo or Bust Black Forest Gateau Rally to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK - a charity that helps families rebuild their lives after a child dies.

Accompanied by James’s godfather, Lawrence will drive a £500 banger from Belgium to Monte Carlo in three and a half days.

In total, the journey from Namur to Monte Carlo will see the pair drive through six countries.

“April 2022 is a strange milestone as James will have been gone longer than he was with us,” said Lawrence,” Lawrence said.

“James was so full of fun and enthusiasm, and I know he would have loved to do the rally with us, even with the risk of breaking down in the mountains.

“During our most difficult hours in the summer of 2010, we were helped by so many friends, family and professionals and I will always feel a huge debt for their love and support.

“I’m taking on this challenge to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK and help other families in their time of need.”
