THE BODY of a missing woman has been found at the base of cliffs.

Emergency services were called to Beachy Head in Eastbourne as part of a search for a missing woman who had travelled to Sussex from another part of the country.

Police said the coastguard conducted a search of the area on Sunday, May 1, and located the body of a woman.

“Sadly, the body of the woman was subsequently found at the foot of the cliffs. There are no suspicious circumstances,” a police spokesman said.

Her next of kin have been informed.

The RNLI Eastbourne said a volunteer crew were paged at about 2.30pm.

They were requested to launch their inshore lifeboat and tasked to assist police, local coastguards and the coastguard rescue helicopter with the incident east of the Belle Tout Lighthouse.

“The inshore lifeboat returned to station at 6.30pm and was then refuelled and made ready for service.

“There will be no further details due to the sensitive nature of the call.”
