A FIRE which broke out at a seafront hotel this afternoon was “accidental”.
The blaze broke out at The Grand hotel in King's Road, Brighton, just after 4.15pm today.
Four fire engines attended from Preston Circus, Hove, Roedean and Lewes, as well as firefighters from West Sussex Fire and Rescue.
The hotel was evacuated with the “small fire” already out on arrival.
A thermal imaging camera was used to ensure there were no further flare-ups or hotspots.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was “accidental”.
The hotel said the situation was “under control”.
A spokeswoman for fire service said: “We were called at 4.18pm to attend The Grand hotel, Brighton following reports of a fire in one of the rooms.
“Firefighters from Preston Circus, Hove, Roedean, Lewes together with firefighters from West Sussex FRS attended.
“On arrival, the hotel had been evacuated and crews investigated the room where the smoke was issuing from. The small fire was out on arrival.
“The cause of the fire was deemed accidental.”
Sussex Police were approached for comment.
