PART of the A27 has been blocked while engineers attend a technical fault. 

Southwick tunnel, near Brighton, is closed in both directions whil engineers attempt to resolve the issue. 

A spokesman for National Highways said: “The A27 SouthwickTunnel near Brighton is closed in both directions due to an operational technology fault. 

“Engineers are en route to investigate and resolve the issue. 

“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra time for your journey.”

National Highways have outlined diversions in place for motorists:

Road users travelling eastbound are advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbols on road signs. 

  • Eastbound diverted traffic will exit the A27 at the Hangleton Interchange onto the A293 southbound towards the junction with the A270, where upon reaching this junction it will then turn east onto the A270 towards the junction with the A2038.
  • Traffic will enter A2038 north west bound and return to the A27 at the Devils Dyke junction.

Road users travelling westbound are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbols on road signs. 

  • Westbound diverted traffic will exit the A27 at the Hangleton Interchange onto the A293 southbound towards the junction with the A270.
  • Here it will then turn west onto the A270 and return to the A27 at the Holmbush interchange.
