A HOUSEBUILDER has paid millions of pounds to a council to help with developments to the area.

Bellway has provided a total of £2.2 million to Lewes District Council for investment in local infrastructure and public services in the district.

The company paid the sixth and final installment of a £1.69 million Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) under the terms of the planning agreement for its new Seaford development.

The developer has also contributed more than £500,000 to fund improvements to bus stops, recycling facilities, play areas and sport pitches.

Bellway is building 183 homes at the site off Eastbourne Road which was previously used by Newlands School.

There will be 137 properties for private sale and 46 affordable homes available to local people through rent or shared ownership.

Mark Harrop, sales director at Bellway Kent, said: “The £2.2 million we have provided through developer contributions for our Seaford Grange development will enable the district council to fund improvements to public facilities and services used by the people of Seaford.

“As well as this direct investment in local services, our development is also bringing additional benefits to the town’s economy, through job creation during the construction programme and greater spending in local shops and businesses from new residents moving into the new homes.

“The first homeowners arrived at Seaford Grange earlier this year, and we are looking forward to welcoming more people to this burgeoning community as construction work progresses. We are delivering a wide variety of homes, from one and two-bedroom apartments to two, three and four-bedroom houses, which will be suitable for a broad spectrum of buyers.”

There is currently a selection of three-bedroom semi-detached and four-bedroom detached houses available to reserve at Seaford Grange, with prices starting from £376,995.
