A CHOIR made up of frontline workers had the audience in tears during their audition for a popular talent show.

The Frontline Singers, a choir of paramedics and police officers, performed an original song about the coronavirus pandemic on Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday night.

PC Keren Moore and PCSO Demetrius Georghiou from Sussex Police were among the group of 21 workers who took to the stage to perform for Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon.

Their song prompted a tearful response from the audience and the judges.

Popstar Alesha said: “I found that really moving actually, I really did. I hung on to every single word you sang.

“It was so poignant and so lovely, and we are in debt to you for your services. Thank you so much."

Music mogul Simon Cowell said: “What we’ve gone through these last couple of years is surreal.

“Then out of it comes moments like this. It gives us a chance to say thank you to all of you, because it’s people like yourselves who protected all of us.”

The choir came together through an online search, and the group also includes West End performers who each took up vital jobs at the height of the pandemic.

Some of the performers returned to working nightshifts at supermarkets, volunteering in the community and working in a pharmacy.

The Frontline Singers’ success follows a triumphant audition by Burgess Hill schoolteacher Tom Ball.

The 23-year-old impressed Simon Cowell with his version of Sam Smith’s song Writing’s On The Wall.

Tom was given a standing ovation from the crowd at the London Palladium and judges Simon, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon.

Amanda said: “That was an exceptional audition. You are one of the best singers we have had in the last 16 years.”

Tom received four "yeses" and remains in with a shot at gaining a place in the live semi-finals.

The ITV talent show returned to screens this year for the first time after it was cancelled in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
