BRIGHTON Festival is continuing today with spoken word performances as well as live piano recitals.

The festival runs until May 29 and is featuring 150 events, exhibitions, venues and shows over the next month.

Journeys From An Absent Present To A Lost Past at Fabrica in Duke Street, Brighton 

Architect and artist Mohamad Hafez creates miniature three-dimensional scenes that draws on the artists’ passion for street art and activism, and seek to raise global awareness about the ongoing Syrian conflict. 

The 12 works exhibited at Fabrica are streetscapes, meticulously fashioned using found objects, paint, and scrap metal. 

On until Sunday, May 29, from noon -6pm

Window Gallery at Phoenix Art Space in Waterloo Place, Brighton 

Studio artists at Phoenix Art Space have been invited to consider the theme of "rebuilding" for a group exhibition in the Window Gallery.

Artworks in this exhibition have been selected by Brighton Festival’s guest co-directors Marwa Al-Sabouni and Tristan Sharps

The Marian Consort at All Saints Church in The Drive, Hove 

A Dusk Concert at All Saints performing Schütz's Musikalische Exequien and David Fennessy's world premiere of new work

The Marian Consort performs a programme that combines Schütz’s Musikalische Exequien with specially commissioned work by David Fennessy. 

Friday at 8.30pm

Tickets cost £20, under 26s £15 and festival standby £10

Iyad Sughayer lunchtime recital at All Saints Church in The Drive, Hove 

The Jordanian–Palestinian pianist Iyad Sughayer has been singled out as “one to watch” by International Piano magazine and recent highlights include an invitation to contribute to the BBC Arabic documentary London Lockdown.

Watch and hear him perform an irresistible selection of works including a new piece by Helen Ottaway inspired by a chant sung by Palestinian women to missing loved ones.

The Patient Gloria at Theatre Royal Brighton in New Road, Brighton

“A mash up of re-enactment, actual footage and lived experience", The Patient Gloria is a “gloriously ballsy meditation on therapy, misogyny and female desire. And it grabs psychotherapy where it really hurts".

Today and Saturday at 7.30pm

Age 16+ (contains scenes of sexual nature, strong language and adult themes)

Witness at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, Falmer

Created by Brighton based award-winning artist filmmaker Emma Critchley, Witness is a film installation linking the human body to ice through underwater dance, spoken word and scientific imagery

The film installation will be open and free during the day and for this, the UK premiere, there will be ticketed evening screenings with the film’s spoken word soundtrack performed live in multiple languages.

Installation 11am to 3pm, last entry 45 minutes before closing time - free

Performances at 5pm and 7pm - £5

Worktable by Kate McIntosh at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, Falmer

Worktable is a live installation of multiple rooms which are constantly shifting and changing. Instructions are provided to visitors along with equipment, safety goggles, and materials. 

The installation is open 11am to 8pm, most visitors will spend 60 minutes, but are welcome to stay longer.

Summer Commission: Jade Montserrat at Brighton CCA in Grand Parade, Brighton

Jade Montserrat has been commissioned to undertake the 2022 Summer Commission at Brighton CCA Gallery. 

The commission, focusing on Montserrat’s articulation of black histories, bodies and narratives, will consist of six new works spanning the 45 metre façade of the galleries. 

This will be the artist’s first major public art commission in the UK.

It will be running until Wednesday, June 1.

The Archive of Favourite Places, across the city

People from communities across Brighton were asked questions and local studio Stephenson& has woven 12 tales into a city-wide immersive photography and sound exhibition.
