POLICE patrols in a park to combat antisocial behaviour led to the arrest of two youths.

Officers from Arun Police stepped up their foot patrols in and around Woodlands Recreation Ground in Rustington following public concerns about antisocial behaviour.

On Tuesday, two Police Community Support Officers spoke with a group of youths, who were identified as being responsible for some of the reported issues.

As a result, two were arrested in connection with an assault which had taken place that day.

A police spokesman said: “We’ve increased our foot patrols in the area of Woodlands Recreation Ground, #Rustington following concerns raised about antisocial behaviour.

“It has been a good opportunity to engage with local residents and answer some questions.

“Whilst patrolling on Tuesday, two of our PCSOs spoke with a group of youths who were identified as being responsible for some of the reported issues.

“Upon making further enquiries two of those youths were then arrested in connection with an assault which had taken place that day.

“A good result.”

Earlier this week, officers from Adur and Worthing Police conducted high-visibility patrols in Shoreham town centre amid a rise in antisocial behaviour.

Meanwhile, officers increased their presence in and around Ferry Road, Shoreham, last week following reports of concern from members of the public.

The same patrols have recently taken place in Arundel, Copthorne and other towns in Sussex.
