PICTURES show the aftermath of a collision at a level crossing that left the railway line blocked.

Emergency services responded to the crash at around 6.30pm yesterday at the South Farm Level Crossing barriers in Worthing.

Southern Rail reported significant rail delays after the two cars collided on the crossing.

Images taken at the scene show both vehicles were damaged during the crash, the entire front of the black Seat is missing and bonnet is crumpled.

The white Vauxhall is missing its front bumper and its windscreen has also been smashed.

Police, ambulance and fire crews all attended the scene.

Steve Buchanan-Lee, general manager for operational training and development at West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service praised the teams for their work.

He said: “Great response to the road traffic collision by West Sussex fire, Worthing fire at Worthing railway station level crossing.

“Key joint working with British Transport Police, Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and joint fire control.

“Thankfully no major injuries or trains were involved.”

All train lines were blocked due to debris on the railway, Southern said.
