A MEXICAN restaurant is to feature in the new BBC Two series Britain’s Top Takeaways tonight.

LA Choza in Gloucester Road, Brighton, are hoping to impress the judges with their authentic Mexican dishes.

The new eight-part series, hosted by Sara Cox and Darren Harriot, sees takeaways across Britain compete to be crowned the best independent takeaway in the country.

The theme of tonight’s episode is Mexican, with the Brighton restaurant set to complete in a battle of tacos and quesadillas.

A spokesman for the show said: “Fabulous authentic Mexican dishes drawing inspiration from all across Mexico are cooked up for tonight’s takeout menu.

“Judging the Mexican cuisine and deciding a winner will be a host of Great British takeway-loving families, who will eat, rate and score the food from the comfort of their dining table or sofa alongside guest judges Heaton Moor Tennis Club.”

Aofie Sweeny, co-owner of La Choza, and chef Benji Hinchcliffe, will be competing with restaurateurs from Lincolnshire, Walthamstow, Hertfordshire, Ware and Fulham.

In an attempt to stand out from the competition, the pair will attempt to make a seafood-inspired Mexican dish.

La Choza is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its Gloucester Road restaurant this year.

Aoife said during lockdown, the Mexican chose to push its takeout and home delivery services “hard to survive”.

She said: “We learned a lot over those difficult months so presenting our food on Britain’s Top Takeaway was the perfect platform to show the quality and creativity of our dishes and the skill of our kitchen team including our wonderful head chef Benji Hinchliffe.”

“We’re up against the best in the business.

“Although we celebrate our tenth anniversary at our Gloucester Road independent restaurant this year, some of these guys have been cooking up the Mexican kitchen since they were kids.

“But we were quietly confident that our Sussex seafood dish would make waves with the other chefs and impress the family judging at home.”

Britain’s Top Takeaway, featuring La Choza, will air on BBC Two at 8pm tonight.
