ALBION fans enjoyed their final away day of the season as they faced Leeds United at Elland Road at the weekend.

Fans went up in their droves with most people donning black curly wigs in recognition for Spanish left back Marc Cucurella.

The 23-year-old joined Potter’s side last summer for £15 million from La Liga side Getafe and recently won two player of the season awards to cap off a fine debut season.

It was a tense match for Leeds who ideally needed a win to give them a strong chance of surviving their second season in the Premier League after gaining promotion two seasons ago.

Albion looked confident after a good end to the season which has seen them secure a record Premier League points haul and record finishing position.

Danny Welbeck opened the scoring after Yves Bissouma gained position in Albion’s half, before driving forward 50 yards and slotting in the 31-year-old who chipped Illan Meslier 21 minutes in.

Albion deserved their lead going into half time and arguably could have been 2-0 up.

Jesse Marsch’s side came out of the blocks with intent in the second half, desperate to end a run of three consecutive defeats.

It was an end-to-end second half with both sides having chances.

The pick of the bunch came late on for Danny Welbeck who had the chance to finish the game off with a close range header. But the striker’s effort went wide from about five yards out.

Leeds would punish Albion late on after some nice trickery from Joe Geldhart who chipped a ball into the back post for substitute Pascal Struijk in the 92nd minute to secure a vital point for the Whites. The final score was 1-1.

Albion have one more game this Sunday at 4pm against West Ham. They can finish as high as eighth or as low as 14th depending how results go.
