THE councillors being put forward as the city’s new mayor and deputy mayor have been confirmed.

The 54 members of Brighton and Hove City Council will vote on the mayoralty role on Thursday, May 26, at the annual meeting.

It comes after "concerns were raised" about Councillor Dawn Barnett becoming the  mayor for 2022/23.

Councillor Lizzie Deane is a Green Party councillor representing the St Peter’s and North Laine ward.

Councillor Jackie O’Quinn is a Labour Party councillor representing Goldsmid ward.

As well as voting for the mayor and deputy, councillors will also vote on who will be sitting on the council’s policy committees, regulatory committees and on committees or boards of external organisations which have council involvement and oversight.

This year’s annual meeting starts at 4.30pm and takes place at Brighton Town Hall.

Attendance is limited to support social distancing arrangements.  The 54 current councillors are invited to attend physically along with a small number of guests of the mayoral candidates.
