A LIFEBOAT crew rescued two people stuck on a yacht which had run aground.

The 11-metre vessel got into difficulties while leaving Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne on Saturday.

Eastbourne RNLI was called to help and launched the inshore lifeboat at 9.30am.

The crew found the yacht stranded with two people on board.

“The decision was made by our volunteer lifeboat crew to deploy the vessel's anchor to assist with the stability once it started to refloat,” an RNLI Eastbourne spokesman said.

One of the people on board the yacht was taken ashore by the lifeboat to be checked by the station doctor.

The yacht was successfully refloated and returned to the safety of the harbour locks.

The lifeboat crew was made up of Dave Needham, his brother Pete and Dave's son Ryan. It was the first time all three had been out on a service call together.
