A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital after being hit by a hearse on a mini roundabout.

The incident happened around 11.30am this morning at the mini roundabout which connects Goldstone Villas and Clarendon Villas in Hove.

A passerby said the empty hearse had “knocked someone down” at the roundabout.

Another passerby said a person on the floor “wasn’t moving” and it “looked serious”.

The ambulance service has now confirmed a woman has been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Eastern Road, Brighton. Police have confirmed that she sustained minor injuries.

Goldstone Villas was blocked while emergency crews attended.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) spokesman said: "I can confirm that SECAmb was called to the scene after reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle at approximately 11.30am today.

"The female cyclist was assessed and treated before being taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital."

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We can confirm we responded to a report of a collision involving a hearse and a cyclist in Eaton Villas, Hove, around 11.37am today.

"The female cyclist was taken to hospital with minor injuries."
