A RESIDENT was left furious after doorbell footage revealed a refuse worker had dumped rubbish on his garden.

Cristiano Oliveira, of Crawley Crescent in Eastbourne, was shocked to discover a duvet had been thrown onto his lawn by a waste worker – particularly as the item did not belong to him.

It has emerged that the duvet had been placed in his green recycling him by another person, though it is not known why.

Cristiano, 31, said: “I was absolutely shocked, especially as they’ve just had a month of strikes, so we had no collection of waste at all for one month, because they demanded better working conditions – I’ve got nothing against that.

“But I think especially now, they just got a massive pay rise, I think we deserve a better service.”

Cristiano lodged a complain with Eastbourne Borough Council and was scheduled to have a meeting with a councillor to discuss the issue last night.

A spokeswoman for the council said: "When non-recyclable items are put inside recycling bins, our usual procedure is to tag the bin with a contaminated label to highlight the problem and alert the resident. However on this occasion, upon looking inside the bin, the recycling crew removed the duvet so that the recycling underneath could be emptied.

"It was not until a complaint was made that it came to our attention the duvet had been left on a neighbour's property, so we dispatched a vehicle to clear it away - however, it had gone. We are liaising with the neighbour and have offered to dispose of the duvet."
