RESIDENTS told of their "shock and concern" after four people were arrested following an early-morning stabbing in the city centre.

Police were called to Grand Parade, Brighton, at about 3.10am on Tuesday.

One person who lives in the Grove Hill area said she heard “a lot of noise” coming from neighbouring streets early in the morning and looked out of her window to find out what was going on.

“It was all going off around here,” she said. “There was a lot of noise coming from a nearby street, [and] I later heard that two [people] on bikes had been stabbed.”

Police arrived at Grand Parade to find one man had suffered an injury to his leg.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Another resident said news of the stabbing came as a “shock”.

“I hadn't heard about [the stabbing] until now but this is really worrying,” she said. “Anyone would be worried.”

Enquiries carried out around the scene led to the identification of a number of suspects, police said, with four people later arrested nearby.

There was also a police presence at nearby Albion House in Albion Street at around 2pm on Tuesday afternoon, although it is not yet known if the two events are connected.

Neighbours in flats near to Albion House said there was “no sign of a disturbance” at the building.

Police later said a 34-year-old woman from Brighton, a 32-year-old man from Brighton and two men aged 34 and 29, of no fixed address, had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Police set up a cordon around a pool of blood in Albion Street.

Part of the street was cordoned off and a photographer from Sussex Police was seen taking pictures of the scene.
