THE organisers of the Brighton Marathon have announced that the route for the 2023 race has  been changed.

Grounded Events, the organisers of the Brighton Marathon weekend, have today announced that they are “waving goodbye to Shoreham Port” for the 2023 event.

The change will see the Basin Road stretch through Shoreham Port removed and more of the earlier miles moved to other roads in Hove, following requests by runners.

A spokesman for Grounded Events said: “Over the years, we have received requests from our runners to change the course at miles 20-23 of the Brighton Marathon route.

“While we have had our hands tied on what we could do logistically in the past, we are delighted to announce some exciting plans for route changes in April.”

The company says that they plan to use “wider, flatter and leafy” roads in the city.

The spokesman added: “This means that the traditionally more difficult part of a marathon, at miles 15-25, will take place within the ultra-supportive community of Hove.

“Experience even more cheering, motivation and atmosphere to help get you through the 26.2 miles.”

The Basin Road stretch through Shoreham Port has been part of the marathon since the first event in 2010.

The new route will come into force for the marathon on Sunday, April 2, 2023. Entries are already open at brightonmarathonweekend.co.uk/enter-brighton-marathon/
