THE BROTHER of a man who died after he was hit by a police car is desperate to know why flowers were removed from a memorial.
Arthur Holscher-Ermert died at the scene of the crash on the A259 in Peacehaven on April 30.
Flowers and cards were left by his family and members of the public at the site of the incident, but were removed – though it is not known who by or why.
Karl Holscher-Ermert, Arthur’s brother, said that he and the public began replacing the flowers last night, but wants to know who removed the previous ones.
“It’s nothing short of horrific,” he said.
“I can’t quite comprehend why anyone would move a dead man’s flowers, and things that people have written, and take them away such a short time after his death, when it’s quite clearly a spot where we can gather to think about him and pay our respects.
“Ultimately, we haven’t laid him to rest yet, and we still don’t know when that may be.
“It could be anyone – the whole thing is absolutely bizarre. He didn’t have any enemies; it doesn’t make any sense."
Karl has been to the memorial today to lay a new bunch of flowers, but wants answers.
“I’d like public support in finding out where our memorial pieces have gone,” he said.
“Somebody must know something. It’s bizarre, crazy. It’s absolutely unbelievable.”
Karl said in a social media post that Brighton and Hove City Council is not responsible, adding that he believes it was a member of the community.
