PEOPLE can have their say on the development of a derelict cement works.

The eight-week online consultation for Shoreham Cement Works in Shoreham Road is starting on Tuesday, June 7.

South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) wants people living in the area or with a general interest to offer their opinion on the derelict site.

While the authority does not own the cement works, the purpose of its area action plan is to “guide the development of this exceptional site and help deliver an exemplar mixed-use development”.

One of the consultation days is being run by the Shoreham Society, a charity which promises to provide an “independent voice” for the town.

The group’s consultation day will be at the Shoreham Centre in Pond Road on Friday, June 17 at 6pm.

It is going to allow people to speak with planners, read some of the studies that have been prepared on the site and learn how to use the online consultation system.

Following the eight-week consultation, which ends on August 2, SDNPA will prepare a “preferred option” document.

The final area action plan will be published next year and used in assessing any future applications for the site.
