A MAN has been arrested at an airport while attempting to board a flight after committing a “serious offence”.

Gatwick Police received information from the Met Police that a man was travelling to the Sussex airport to escape the country in the early hours of Sunday, June 5.

Police said he had allegedly committed a serious offence earlier that day.

The man, who was about to board a plane, was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

In a statement released by Gatwick Police, the force said: “An excellent arrest before we go into some days off. Information received from the Met Police that a subject had made his way to the airport to escape the country having allegedly committed a serious offence today.

“The subject was located at the airport getting onto the plane. He was arrested, taken to custody and awaiting officers from London to collect him.

“Excellent cross border policing.”

In a separate incident also in the early hours of Sunday, June 5, Gatwick Police’s D-Team arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a woman at the airport.

Police said the pair were about to board a flight when the incident happened.

A police spokesman said: “Assaulting your partner is never acceptable. Domestic assaults will always be robustly dealt with.”
