THIS summer, a National Trust house and park has planned a fun-filled events programme to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

Petworth House and Park is hosting the summer of events to mark 75 years since it became a National Trust property.

Sarah Taylor, Senior Programming Officer for Petworth House says: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming visitors this summer, to experience events that will give them the chance to explore the history of Petworth House and the beauty of the Deer Park in exciting new ways.”

Here are the events happening across the summer.

Outdoor Cinema - Encanto

Sunday, August 21, garden opens at 6:30 pm, films start 8:30pm

Tickets cost: Adult £15, Child £7.50, booking essential

"No seating is provided please bring a camping chair and blanket with you. Ice creams, snacks and drinks will be available to purchase on the night. Hot dogs are by pre-booking only by purchasing a ticket with this option included."

‘Come out and play’ Children’s activity stations

Petworth Late Opening: Summer Solstice

Tuesday, June 21 at 7 to 10pm,

"Spend the summer solstice in the Pleasure Garden, enjoy a peaceful stroll, see the evening sunlight illuminate the Italian styled Ionic Rotunda, and watch the sunset. Take a seat on one of the garden benches and enjoy the beauty of nature on this rare evening opening"

Petworth Late: A Turner Art Escape

Friday, July 1 at 6.30pm to 8.30pm

"Explore Petworth House and discover 19 paintings by J.M.W. Turner (1775 – 1851), along with other collection treasures. The evening includes music from a string duo, highlight talks, a free welcome drink on arrival and a pay-for bar. Your ticket also includes entry to the Frank Auerbach: Unseen exhibition at Newlands House Gallery, open until August 14. This visit is not included in the evening event, ticket holders must make their own way to the gallery during visiting hours."

Work in Progress: Restoring ‘Petworth’s Beauties’

Saturday, June 11 to Sunday, October 30 at 10am-5pm

Free display, normal admission applies (free for National Trust members)

"This summer, Petworth is exhibiting two recently restored ‘Beauties’ portraits for the first time since they were returned to their original full-length size. Painted by the seventeenth-century artist Michael Dahl, these portraits of Rachel Russell, Duchess of Devonshire, and Mary Somerset, Duchess of Ormonde, are considered to be some of his finest works.

"This work-in-progress display spotlights the extensive conservation work that has been undertaken to restore these two works to their former full-length glory. You can see the two restored paintings in the Exhibition Room at Petworth."

Workshops in Petworth Park

"Designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, Petworth Park is a stunning landscape, and this summer there is the opportunity to join workshops in the historic deer park learning photography, painting, drawing or yoga. Courses are provided by tutors from Aspire Sussex."
