A MAN has been arrested after a bomb squad was called over a “suspicious package”.

Police were called to an address in Tarring Road, Worthing, at about 9am on Wednesday, June 8.

At the property, officers were concerned about a suspicious package that was found.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were called to the scene and safely destroyed the package.

A 52-year-old man has been subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

He remains in custody at this time.

The road in the area was closed as a precaution and reopened at about 10.10pm on Wednesday.

“Officers have thanked residents for their patience during this incident and can expect to see an increased police presence while enquiries continue,” a Sussex Police spokesman said.
