A LARGE “unexploded ordnance” from a collection of military memorabilia has been detonated by police.

Officers were called to Wilberforce Way in Southwater, Horsham, at about 12.30pm on Thursday, June 9.

Police warned there would be some disruption in the area while officers dealt with the incident.

Images released by the police show personnel digging up ground to detonate it. 

A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Wilberforce Way in Southwater after reports of unexploded ordinance which had been located during a house move.

“The items from a collection of military memorabilia was identified and secured safely.

“With the assistance of explosive ordnance disposal officers, the unexploded ordinance is now exploded ordinance and we have stood down any road closures.”

A video shared by Horsham Police shows the detonation. 

Other photographs also showed a number of police vehicles at the scene and a cordon set up by officers.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested after a bomb squad was called over a “suspicious package” in Worthing on Wednesday.

At a property in Tarring Road, officers were called following concerns about a suspicious package that was found.

The explosive ordnance disposal team were called to the scene and safely destroyed the package.

A 52-year-old man has been subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

He remains in custody at this time.
