A MOTHER who drove a car without a licence or insurance and crashed while more than twice the drink drive legal limit has been let off with a conditional discharge.

Brighton Magistrates’ court heard that Charis Boyd, 35, also took the car without the consent of the owner.

She crashed into two parked cars while driving in Gibbon Road, Newhaven, on October 30 last year.

The court heard that Boyd, of Meeching Court, Fort Road, Newhaven, took the car without the owner's consent from Haven Way, Newhaven.

Boyd told the court on June 9 there had been no repercussions after she crashed.

“I haven’t heard anything about that,” she told the court, adding: “I really don’t like driving.”

A breath test later showed Boyd had 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

The court heard Boyd was trying to “make progress” in her life after suffering some setbacks in the past.

District judge Amanda Kelly told her the sentence she was passing was an “additional incentive to make progress”, but added: “This was a serious example of drink driving. You could have killed somebody else’s child.”

She gave Boyd, who pleaded guilty to all charges, a conditional discharge for 18 months and ordered her to pay a victim surcharge of £22.
