Emergency services were called to the Tangmere Roundabout near Chichester in the early hours of this morning after a single-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway.
A 53-year-old man, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Pictures show several police vehicles and a fire engine from West Sussex Fire and Rescue at the scene as an air ambulance arrived to attend the incident.
The road between the A285 Portfield roundabout and the A27 Fontwell Services roundabout was closed for several hours while an accident investigation took place.
A diversion route was set up while officers conducted enquiries, with National Highways describing the incident as a “serious collision”.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, and are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or the events leading up to it, as well as anyone with relevant dash cam footage.
Those with relevant information or footage are urged to contact police at collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting Op Hedyon.
