FOR over 40 years since I moved to the area I have been reading letters in The Argus citing examples of visitors having an apparently unhappy visit to Brighton (letters, June 10 et al).

The writer will then blame the current political composition of the council and cite this as evidence that some policy (often associated with cars) will put off visitors who will surely never return.

Since 1978 the political composition has changed numerous times.

The area has been transformed from a resort that while always popular was fading, battling like all resorts against the growth of foreign travel and changing expectations for holidays and day trips.

It has surely now never been more popular and is seen as a must-go-to destination for visitors from the rest of the UK and the world.

It is also now a far more popular place to live - hence the hideous house prices.

Clearly, someone is doing something right.
