A CAR has flipped on its roof after a "serious collision" on the A27.

Two cars were involved in a crash earlier this morning at around 11.45am at the roundabout connecting with the A22 Golden Jubilee Way.

Four fire engines, as well as police and ambulance crews, attended the incident, with the emergency services still at the scene of the crash.

Officers were seen at the scene of the incident, with one vehicle on its roof by the roundabout while another appears to have severe damage to its rear.

The Argus:

The driver of one of the vehicles is being treated for serious injuries and it is understood that an air ambulance has flown the injured driver to hospital.

A section of the A27 remains closed from Polegate to Pevensey and is expected to remain closed for some time.

Congestion has built up on surrounding routes through Polegate, Hailsham, Pevensey and Stone Cross as traffic is diverted.

National Highways has described the incident as a “serious collision”, with enquiries still ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Witnesses of the collision are being urged to contact police at collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting Operation Netley.
