TWO people were injured and had to be rescued by the coastguard during a charity walk.

Emergency services were called to assist two casualties participating in the hike at the Seven Sisters Country Park on Saturday, June 11.

Newhaven Coastguard said both walkers were taken to hospital – one by an air ambulance and the other by a coastguard rescue helicopter.

“A multi-agency response to two casualties participating in a charity walk on the Seven Sisters Country Park,” a Newhaven Coastguard spokesman said.

“Alongside fellow Coastguard Rescue Teams from Birling Gap and Eastbourne, HEMS and the Ambulance, we attended to both casualties to stabilise and ready them for transfer to Hospital.

“One via HEMS air ambulance and the other via our coastguard rescue 175 helicopter.

“In a coastal emergency, dial 999 Coastguard.”

The rescue was the Newhaven Coastguard crew’s fourth call out of the day, and their 101st of the year so far.

Earlier that day, the coastguard were tasked with assisting a person who slipped and injured their arms at Newhaven Marina.

The person was located, assisted and transferred to the car of an ambulance.

Then, the crew were tasked with helping locate a person in difficulty in the sea in Brighton.

The swimmer was found safe and well.

The crew were also tasked with assisting police with an incident.
