PEOPLE have been left shocked after a car crashed into a train station over the weekend.

Police were called to Hove railway station at 8.19am on Saturday, June 25, following reports that a vehicle had crashed into the front of the building.

Fortunately, Southern was running an amended service on Saturday due to the third day of RMT strikes.

Passengers who were intending to travel were urged to use their tickets on alternative bus routes to travel.

Sussex Police confirmed that no injuries were reported.

The station was closed for much of the day while staff worked with emergency services to clear the entrance.

The Argus:

A spokesman for Southern said: “Hove station is currently closed.

“This is due to a road vehicle colliding with station equipment.

“Southern services between Hove and Brighton will not operate at this time.

“The emergency services are in attendance, and our station management teams are also responding.”

Facebook users were shocked by the incident, with many questioning how the collision could have occurred.

One said: “Considering the location of where it is, how is this even possible?”

Another said: “Good Job the RMT was on strike and no passengers/people were hurt. Everything happens for a reason.”

The Argus:

Pictures taken at the scene show the front of the Honda convertible completely destroyed.

Its bonnet has been crumpled and the front bumper has been detached from the body of the car.

The vehicle collided with a metal railing at the entrance of the station ticket office.

There is damage to the brickwork surrounding the doors to the building and the steps.

The Southern spokesman later added: “Additional response teams are on their way to repair the damage to the station entrance.

“Until this has been completed, it's unsafe for the station to reopen.

“You'll need to use an alternative route between Hove and Brighton.”

It was announced at 3.17pm that the station had reopened.

The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time.

The police have been approached for further information.
