THE A27 is closed and an air ambulance is in attendance after a three car pile-up this morning.

The crash happened around 10.45am this morning near Gainsborough Lane, Polegate on the westbound side of the A27.

All emergency services can be seen on the road while an air ambulance is also in attendance.

The air ambulance was called initially but a woman was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal County Sussex Hospital in Eastern Road, Brighton by road ambulance.

A Mini can be seen on the road, while one car which appears to be a Kia can be seen on the new A27 cycle lane. A truck was also involved.

There are queues on eastbound side going back towards Drusillas roundabout but these appear to be easing.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) spokesman said: "I can confirm that SECAmb was called at approximately 10.45am today to reports of an RTC on the A27 at Gainsborough Lane, Polegate.

"Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the Kent, Surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance Service.

"A woman was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital by road."

Clear up of the scene is currently taking place.

Sussex Police have been approached for comment.
