A MOTORIST has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a car left the road and collided with a tree.

Photographs from the scene show damage to a small black car.

There were serious delays following the crash on the A24 this morning. 

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area around the northbound carriageway, near the Findon roundabout.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Just after 6.10am on Wednesday police responded to a report of a car leaving the road on the A24, Findon and colliding with a tree.

"The northbound side of the road was closed for a time while emergency services attend the scene.

"The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries."

Long delays are continuing on all surrounding roads.

This includes the A280 long furlong northbound and A24 southbound between the Washington and Grove Lodge roundabout in Worthing.
