A YACHT manned by one person washed up on a beach earlier today.

An onlooker called emergency services at around 11.40am after noticing the boat slamming against the shoreline on Rustington beach in Littlehampton.

Littlehampton Coastguard rescue team were sent to help and got the person out and away to safety.

The boat remains anchored on the beach and will be moved in the near future.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokeswoman said: “At approx. 11.40am today, June 29, HM Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public concerned about a yacht with one person onboard that had run aground on Rustington Beach in Littlehampton.

Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue Team were sent to assist, while the Harbour Master and the local council have been informed.

“The casualty has been evacuated to shore. The harbour and the vessel owner will discuss a plan to refloat the vessel.”

It is unclear when the boat will be moved away.
