A GP SURGERY is to open on Saturdays to help patients who have been unable to secure appointments.

People have been struggling to see a doctor at Northbourne Medical Centre in Shoreham due to high demand.

Now the surgery has announced it will open for appointments from 9am until 5pm on Saturdays to combat the issue unless there is a vaccination clinic taking place.

The new service, which launches this Saturday, is for Adur Health Partnership patients  with the Northbourne site chosen for its central location.

Sarah Ellett, chief executive at AHP, said: “We are always looking to offer a better service to patients and are pleased that we’ll now be able to make additional appointments available on a regular basis.

“We hope this will be particularly useful to those working full time or in caring roles who might struggle to access us in the normal surgery hours.

“We know how strongly people feel about the NHS, and general practice in particular, and we want to offer the best possible care so we can live up to those expectations.”

It supplements the surgery’s usual opening hours of 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Phone lines and the reception desk will remain closed on Saturdays.
