A MAN has been jailed for more than a year after two burglaries and assaulting a police officer while being arrested.

Steven Greavey, of no fixed address, broke into the Hadleigh Hotel in Burlington Place, Eastbourne on Friday, May 13.

Once inside, the 32-year-old took several items including money and alcohol.

The next day, Saturday May 14, Greavey entered a nearby house and stole credit and debit cards while the occupants were asleep.

Greavey then used the stolen cards in a nearby shop before being stopped and searched by police.

The stolen cards were found and he was arrested. During the arrest, he assaulted one of the officers.

CCTV footage captured Greavey at the hotel, while forensics linked him to the second burglary at the house.

Greavey pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday, June 21.

He received a 15-month prison sentence for two counts of burglary, one count of theft, one count of assault on an emergency service workers and three counts of fraud by false representation.

Eastbourne has seen 90 burglaries from May 2021 to April 2022, according to the latest police crime data.
