BUDDING artists are invited to get stuck in on free courses at a gallery this summer.

The Phoenix Art Space in Waterloo Place, Brighton, has opened many of its creative art courses to residents of the Phoenix Estate which is behind the gallery.

Residents can choose from a range of subjects, including life drawing, acrylic painting, and printmaking as well as jewellery and pottery making.

Chloe Hoare, community and learning programme manager at Phoenix Art Space, said: “It is a huge pleasure to be able to offer something free to our local community during the current cost-of-living crisis.

“Our creative courses are often out of reach to people on the lowest incomes, but now all our neighbours can benefit from the fantastic range of learning that is available at Phoenix.

“Being creative is proven to improve wellbeing and can offer escapism from our day-to-day struggles.”

Many residents have already signed up to a course, and the gallery is encouraging more people to get involved.

The courses are run by professional artists and follow on from Phoenix Art Space’s free online lockdown classes, which have been able to extend to an in-person format due to a grant from the Postcode Society Trust.

To sign up for a class, residents should contact Phoenix Art Space directly.
