A FAMILY have organised a charity football match and fun day in memory of their grandfather.

David Geddes, 81, supported children’s hospice Chestnut Tree House in Angmering throughout his life.

He died in January last year and his family organised a charity football match which raised over £2,500 in his memory.

This year, they want to go even bigger and are inviting the public to join them for a day of football, activities and food at Lancing FC’s ground in Culver Road, Lancing.

Nathan Whessell, from Brighton, is one of the organisers and is hoping to see more people in attendance and even more money raised.

He said: “Our grandpa was a big supporter of Chestnut Tree House and was heavily into his football.

“He died in January 2021 at the age of 81, and we wanted to organise this match in his memory. This year, we want to go bigger and better.

“As well as the football match, there will be a bouncy castle, raffle, some fun activities for the kids, a bar serving refreshments, hot food, freshly prepared pizzas and much more.

“We have several local businesses on board to help make the day a success and we’re hoping to have 1,000 people attending. We’d love to see you there.

“It’s a shame that our grandpa isn’t around to see it, but I know he’d be really proud.

“Chestnut Tree House was important to him, and I know he’d be pleased that we’re continuing to raise money for the charity in his memory.”

Gates open from noon from tomorrow, Sunday July 3, and entry cost £3.50 for adults. Children go free.

The charity match starts at 2.15pm and last admission is at 4pm.

Tickets can be bought on Skiddle or on the day at the venue.
