A WARNING has been issued after police received reports of motorists driving the wrong way up slip roads on the A23 following a crash involving a car and lorry.

The crash happened around 5.15am this morning on the southbound side of the A23 near Bolney.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were all in attendance where a car was left overturned.

Sussex Police have received reports of people travelling up slip roads in their cars to avoid road closures.

A spokesman said: "A number of vehicles have reportedly been travelling the wrong way up slip roads to avoid the current road closures on the A23.

"Please do not do this - not only is it an offence, you are placing yourself and other road users at risk."

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.

A spokesman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision between a car and lorry on the A23 near Bolney around 5.15am on Sunday, July 10.

“The road is currently closed in both directions from Junction 11 (Pease Pottage) while police, fire and ambulance services attend the scene.

“It is likely the road is going to be closed in both directions for a significant time and it is not yet known when the road will re-open.

“Anyone who was planning to use the road is being asked to take an alternative route.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage of it is asked to report it to police by emailing it to collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Riverhill.”

The northbound side of A23 has now been reopened.

The southbound side remains closed while it is cleaned by Highways teams.
