IT was a horror weekend of crashes on roads across the county.
A 23-year-old man died after driving his car the wrong way down the A23 near Bolney and crashing into a lorry in the early hours of Sunday, July 10.
There were several more crashes over the weekend, as well as another man who died in a crash involving a motorbike and a car on Thursday along the A272.
On Saturday morning, a driver crashed their car into a wall and telegraph pole but did not suffer any serious injuries in Rattle Road, near Eastbourne.
The same morning at around 10am, there was a three car pile-up on the A283 between Storrington and Pulborough.
The road was closed for several hours and there were long delays as clear up work took place.
People from all the cars were taken to hospital with injuries varying from minor to serious. Nobody suffered life threatening injuries.
Also on Saturday at around 2pm, a car towing a trailer filled with wood overturned on the A27 near the Patcham turn off.
There were miles of queues as the road was closed to recover the car and trailer. The driver suffered “no injuries”.
In the early hours of Sunday, a crash involving a car and lorry left the A23 closed for most of the day as accident investigation work took place, as well as clear up of the scene on the southbound side.
A 23-year-old man driving the Nissan Qashqai was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both sides of the road were closed for several hours before the northbound side was opened. The southbound side was reopened in the evening.
On Thursday, July 7, Sussex Police appealed for information after a man was killed after a crash involving a car and motorbike on the A272.
The 43-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene.
Last Sunday, a 19-year-old man was killed in a collision involving a car and a lorry. He was declared dead at the scene.
The crash happened at about 9.15pm on Sunday, July 3 in Steyning Road, Shoreham.
