A WATER supply company has apologised after an airport and hundreds of homes have been left with no water amid heatwave.

People at Gatwick Airport have been unable to use toilets this afternoon after a water main burst in the Crawley area this afternoon.

More than 100 homes were also left with no water and more than 1, 000 were left with low pressure.

SES Water, the company responsible for supplying water to the area, has now said that teams are working to repair the burst and expect supplies to be restored soon.

The Argus:

An SES Water spokesman said: “Earlier today, we identified a burst water main in the Crawley area, which left just over 100 properties with no water and 1,200 properties with low pressure.

“We are pleased to confirm that our teams are currently repairing the burst and we expect supplies to be restored to normal soon.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to anyone affected by this incident and thank you for your understanding.”

Gatwick apologised to passengers after water in the airport dried up and distributed bottled water.

A Gatwick spokeswoman said earlier this afternoon: “An issue with the supply of SES Water to Gatwick and the surrounding area this morning has led to lower water pressure than normal across the airport.

“We are working closely with SES Water to ensure this issue is resolved as quickly as possible.

“Bottled water is being made available to passengers and staff across the airport and other contingency measures are being put in place to ensure the welfare of our passengers.

“We apologise for any inconvenience to passengers.”
