A TEENAGER has been arrested after a woman was allegedly raped in a public park. 

Police responded to a call from a member of the public about a distressed woman in Hartfield Park, Eastbourne, at about 5.15am on Tuesday. 

Officers attended and the woman told them she had been raped. 

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He remains in custody.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident,” a Sussex Police spokesman said. 

“There is likely to be an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues.”

The woman is receiving support from specially trained officers.

A police cordon has been put up inside the children’s play area in the park.
