SEARING temperatures are set to level off after the city baked in extreme heat this week.
A new UK record of 40.3C was set on Tuesday in Coningsby, Lincolnshire, while Brighton saw thousands head to the beach to enjoy a toasty 33.
But the scorching heat is over, with temperatures in mid-20s forecast for the remainder of this week and all of the next.
Temperatures are likely to be between 22C and 24C for the next 11 days, and the weather will be partly cloudy, offering some welcome shade.
The Met Office had issued a red weather warning for some parts of England across Monday and Tuesday, while England, Wales, and parts of Scotland were placed under amber warnings.
Both meant that areas could expect extreme heat, with a risk to life.
A new overnight record was also set on Monday night, with temperatures remaining in the mid-20s, meaning an uncomfortable sleep for many.
