A MAN has been charged with several offences after a man was seriously injured in a violent attempted robbery.

A group of people reported being approached by two men in the early hours of Wednesday, June 29, in Jubilee Street, Brighton.

After being threatened by the pair, two members of the group were assaulted, with one suffering significant injuries including a broken arm and a cut to his leg believed to be from a weapon.

They called the police after the men fled the scene and, after a short search, a man was found in nearby Pavilion Gardens.

Roman Lee, 18, of Clarence Square in Brighton, was arrested and later charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, actual bodily harm, assault by beating, attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He was also accused of being in breach of an existing community protection notice prohibiting him from entering Pavilion Gardens.

Lee appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody, pending an appearance at a court to be confirmed on August 9.
