POLICE have appealed for information following an accident which left a racing driver with serious injuries.

Officers received a report of a collision between a van and a cyclist on the A259 near East Dean, at around 5.20pm on Tuesday.

The cyclist was later identified as racing driver Jack Bartholomew, from Brighton, who was cycling as part of his training regime.

The air ambulance was called but not required as Jack was stabilised and conscious at the roadside.

The 23-year-old, who races in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB championship for Richardson Racing, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by road.

He sustained multiple injuries including a broken collarbone, broken ribs and a punctured lung, but is said to be out of danger.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
