WHILE THURSDAY served as the soft opening for Fatboy Slim’s return to the pebbles, Friday was utter bedlam and delivered everything we hoped for, and more.

Right from the off, people were desperate to catch the second and final day of Norman Cook’s short residency on the shores.

He began his set true to form, bangers from the get-go. Never letting off.

Fire cannons and smoke billowing from the stage before he brought out the strobes and lasers as the day light slipped away. Rammer after rammer, tune after tune. Spine tingling stuff.

The atmosphere changed as night time rolled around. The tunes became heavy, dirtier, and induced antics from those without a ticket. People were seen on top of bus stop shelters, climbing on to bins, and one man was even up a lamppost.

It harked back to Fatboy’s famous 2002 show, but remained controlled, with people taking note of the safety information the stewards and police were providing.

But the gig itself was flawless. Just perfect. And Norman did not miss a beat. He seems more connected and in tune with the Brighton crowd than ever, and is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.
