Brighton and Hove Albion fans will be able to follow the new Falmer football stadium being built through a live internet link.

Club bosses are planning to give supporters a brick-by-brick webcam view as the £50 million community stadium takes shape.

The news comes as the latest picture of the stadium were released by the club (see right). The picture shows how the 22,500 seat stadium will sink into the surrounding landscape.

There is a connecting glass tunnel leading to an impressive grass covered construction skills centre, part of ambitious plans to expand City College Brighton and Hove.

Work is expected to begin at the site in Village Way North by the end of the year, and the club hopes to kick off the 2010/11 season in its new home.

Albion chief executive Martin Perry said he expected a contractor to build the stadium to be selected by August.

Paul Samrah, chairman of the Falmer For All campaign, said: "We want to include the webcam link so fans all over the world can see how the building is coming along.

"I've no doubt it will be hugely popular. People have waited so long that they will gobble up even the smallest details.

"It's the complete reverse of how many fans feel about the Goldstone Ground. Instead of avoiding driving past the site, people will be taking detours to Falmer to see how the new stadium is developing.

"Once we get building the interest is going to be huge, so any new technology we can use to keep people updated will be looked at."

Meanwhile details of a 'Falmer Roadshow' have been finalised by the club.

The Falmer Fans' Forum will be held at Hove Town Hall on February 26 at 7.30pm.

The evening will be presented by Mr Perry and Albion chairman Dick Knight and will include updated pictures and graphics of the stadium.

A question and answer session will also be held to give supporters the chance to express their views on the plans.

The club hopes the event will galvanise supporters amid dwindling home attendances.

Communities Secretary Hazel Blears finally approved plans for the Falmer stadium in July last year.

Mrs Blears was the third minister to oversee the planning application, which became the longest ever endured by a British football club.

The Argus told this week how the club has asked the city council to extend its lease until 2011 - a year after the club is scheduled to move into a new £50 million stadium at Falmer.

The move sparked fears among fans that the club is looking at the possibility of moving into the 22,500 seat stadium a year later than planned.

But Mr Perry assured fans he expects no delays. The club is hoping to continue to use Withdean to host youth, reserve and women's team matches as part of the deal.

Fans are being urged to write to the council in support of the application.

Letters should be addressed to Nicola Hurley, Development Control, Brighton and Hove City Council, Hove Town Hall, Norton Road, Hove, BN3 3BQ.
