BBC Radio 1’s Greg James has completed a giant jigsaw after a six-day quest to find puzzle pieces.

While broadcasting from Hove Lagoon last week for the “Radio 1 Games”, Greg was escorted out of a studio, removed from his breakfast show, and told he could only regain his presenting duties by completing a giant jigsaw.

A total of 20 pieces were scattered across the UK, with listeners discovering and delivering them to Greg in Hove.

Pieces were discovered at the Amex Stadium for the Lionesses’ quarter-final match against Spain, in a shark tank at SeaLife Brighton, frozen in a block of ice in Cardiff, and on top of the roof of the Radio 1 studio at Hove Lagoon.

The final piece was discovered buried on the beach near Hove Beacon, with metal detectorist Simon Cox helping Greg locate it.

Onlookers applauded and cheered as Greg donned his waders and placed the final piece in a floating puzzle frame - completing the jigsaw of the Radio 1 logo.

Greg thanked listeners who helped him finish the jigsaw and said: “This has been absolute nonsense, but we’ve done it. I feel so battered.”

Among those to offer their help included Zoe Ball’s 14-year-old daughter, Nelly, who both live in Hove.

Greg celebrated by lying flat on the jigsaw exhausted as it floated in the lagoon.

Scott Mills and Chris Stark, who had been hosting the Radio 1 Breakfast Show in his absence, officially handed back control to Greg after completing the puzzle - marking the last time the duo will host the slot.

Both Scott and Chris are leaving Radio 1, with Scott moving to Radio 2 and Chris joining Capital.

Speaking to the pair after returning to the studio, Greg said: “I really have loved doing this with you this week. It’s been tough and horrible and weird, but also it’s been so fun to mess around with you two - you two are two of the greatest ever.”
