FATBOY Slim is to release a new album to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Big Beach Boutique 2 concert.

More than 250,000 fans gathered on Brighton Beach on July 13, 2002, in what was described as the “biggest event Sussex has ever seen".

The crowd was more than four times the expected size and at the time, doubled Brighton’s population.

A year earlier, about 40,000 people attended the first of the Big Beach Boutique events.

But in 2002, Fatboy Slim, real name Norman Cook, performed the second of his free open-air concerts on Brighton beach in front of a record breaking crowd.

Just over 20 years later, he has announced the release of Right Here, Right Then to celebrate the event.

The album, which will be available in hardback book and CD digipak formats, comprises recordings of the original set, a new DJ mix, a DVD of the original concert and a 48-page book.

It will be released on September 2 on BMG and is available to pre-order now.

Fatboy Slim has reminisced about the 2002 concert, saying: “I think I was too stressed on the day about crowd safety to really take it all in, to fully enjoy the experience.

“Now I feel I can look back at the footage, remember the tunes, that sunset, my home seafront looking like a carnival in Brazil, so many beautiful people having the time of their lives.

“I have never seen such joyous madness, such good natured abandon. A wise man once described me as ‘a shepherd of moments’.”

The DJ, who lives in Hove, will be holding a weekender, All Back To Minehead, at Butlin’s Minehead from November 18 to 21.

Organisers said: “Be prepared for three days of love, dancing and laughter and unusual amounts of fun with DJ sets from Groove Armada, Everything, Idris Elba, Horse Meat Disco, The 2 Bears Rave, Jodie Harsh and Fatboy Slim.

“The party goes on and it goes on and on: it shows no sign of stopping.”
