MYSTIC meerkats at a Sussex zoo predicted England’s stunning victory over Sweden to secure their place in the Women’s Euros.

The Lionesses powered past one of the favourites to win the tournament, beating them 4-0 and granting England their first major final since 2009.

Hours before the match, a mob of meerkats at Drusillas Park near Alfriston were presented with two buckets; one with an England flag and another with the flag of Sweden.

Almost all of the meerkats were quick to inspect the England bucket, “forecasting” the Lionesses would emerge triumphant at Bramall Lane in Sheffield.

More than 28,000 people packed the stadium to watch last night’s match, which saw substitute Alessia Russo score with a back-heeled effort in the 68th minute.

Chants of “football’s coming home” reverberated around the ground at various points in the match.

The Lionesses will now face either Germany or France in the final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, depending on the result of another semi-final match in Milton Keynes tonight.
